It's more expensive in the long run, but it would get him going on his new job. There are also rent-to-own music stores. Again, more in the long term, but the payments are manageable! Other options include getting it used. Ebay, amazon (through re-sellers), local Pawn shops, &c. Taking a loan for this (NOT putting it on a CC) would in-fact be reasonable, as well, since this is an investment in your family income. Any DVDs in your home that you guys don't watch really are cash at a used video store. but DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR, and call all of the ones you can find in your phone book, local.google.com, local.yahoo.com, &c. Get prices from each of them. Let them know that you are price comparing to other stores in the area, and you may get a small bump. get the name of the person you talked with, so that when you come in, you can quote the price. If you really ARE planning on using your stimuls check to do this, you COULD use a credit card like TODAY, and pay off the bill with the Stimuls check. Have you guys contacted your insurance? (i hope you had insurance, i am sorry if you didn't!) Please, both of you, focus on the positive, though. I mean, what if you two had been car-jacked? You guys could be injured! you guys could have been killed! What if your CHILD was still in the car when it got stolen? There is a lot to be thankful for. Are you guys a member of a local church? This may be the time to ask for a favour. There is nothing wrong with asking for charity, if you really need it. And you two do, right now. ESPECIALLY if you plan on paying it back, then it's just a friendly loan. There may also be other local charities in the area to help.
